What is Manual Therapy?
Manual therapy is a "hands-on" type of treatment which involves the mobilization of joints to allow a more free and efficient pattern of movement. It can be used to help a stiff neck, relieve pressure on a pinched nerve or decrease the chances of developing shoulder tendonitis.

Francisco Gatchalian, Bsc.PT
Director of Trailside Physio

Francisco obtained his degree in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University, after studying Biology and Psychology. He has also obtained a diploma from Uppsala University, Sweden in international health care development. Francisco has undergone continuing education in sports therapy, acupuncture, orthopaedics, golf injuries and ergonomics.

Francisco has been involved as a team leader with Canadian Ski Patrol and a guide for Trailriders Mountain Bike Club. He also teaches injury management as an instructor with the Canadian Mountain Biking Instructor Certification Program. Francisco has also worked extensively with the New Westminster Hyacks football team as well as the Douglas College athletics program.

Currently, Francisco spends his time between the Trailside group of clinics in New Westminster, Coquitlam, and at BCIT.

 

Kevin Stoll, Bsc.PT
Physio Therapist

Kevin Stoll graduated from UBC in 1999 with a Bachelors of Science in Physiotherapy. He has completed post-graduate training to achieve his E3V3 level in orthopaedic manual therapy and his Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy.

Kevin has also been an instructor of Anatomy and Kinesiology at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in New Westminster, BC.

Kevin is a Sports Physiotherapist who has extensive experience working with elite level athletes, as well as general orthopaedic injuries. Over his career, Kevin has worked with the:

  • Alpine Ski Team Women's GS and Slalom teams (2003-present)
  • Men's Field Hockey Team (1999-2003)
  • 2003 Pan American Games (Dominican Republic)
  • UBC Thunderbirds Ice Hockey Team (1999-2001)

With Trailside Physiotherapy, Kevin is looking to become more involved with sports and recreation at the community level.

 

Sarah Kennedy, Bsc.PT
Registerd Physiotherapist

In 2004, Sarah graduated from Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. She began working at Trailside Physio in July 2005 at the New Westminster and BCIT locations. She has had continuing education in Women's Health, TMJ disorders, Sports Physiotherapy and is currently working on her level II manual therapy certification.

Sarah has provided eduction lectures at Century House community center and worked with Douglas College soccer teams. Outside of work she enjoys yoga, ultimate frisbee, karaoke and reading for her book club.

 

Dr. Kevin Lunnie
BSc, BPHE, B Ed, DC, ART®, Graston®, CPTN-CPT

Dr. Kevin Lunnie completed his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degrees concurrently while at Queen's University, graduating in 1999. A year later he completed his Bachelor of Education, also at Queen's University. He continued his education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto Ontario, garnering clinical proficiency honours while earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2005. Dr. Lunnie is a fully certified Active Release Techniques® practitioner, as well as being a certified Level 1 Graston Technique® provider.

Dr. Lunnie continues to model a healthy and active lifestyle competing in lacrosse and running for fitness. His pursuits have allowed him to play professional lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League during the 2001 and 2003 seasons, and compete in the 2005 Boston Marathon. Since 2006, Dr. Lunnie has volunteered his time with the New Westminster Salmonbellies Jr. A Lacrosse and New Westminster Hyacks Varsity Football teams as team chiropractor and athletic trainer. Continuing with his teaching experience, Dr. Lunnie has spoken to several running, triathlon, and business groups around the lower mainland on the avoidance and management of overuse injuries associated with sports as well as the workplace.
